Merry Christmas

I am up North at my folks at the moment so this is just a very short entry to wish everyone who reads my ravings a very merry Christmas and a very happy, healthy, prosperous 2009.

The boys are all excited as "Santa Time" is drawing near!!! They made sure that they put granny and grandads address on their letter to him so that he knew where to deliver their pressies! (I hope he remembers!)

We are all about to head out,in the next hour or so to the midnight service to sing some Christmas hymns and carols, then when we come back to the house we will hang up the stockings and hope that Santa will come.

Have a great day tomorrow..........I will!

Radio Forth Toy Appeal

Today was the last day to donate toys for the Radio Forth Christmas toy appeal.Every year they do this so that children who would not get anything for Christmas, get something. The toys are handed over to the local Social Work departments in Edinburgh, Lothians and Fife and The Salvation Army, who distribute them to the children.

OK so why am I rambling on about this worthy cause on the day the appeal finishes? Well, Musselburgh Rugby Football Club had toys left over from the Christmas party last year, and the Board decided we would donate them to the Radio Forth appeal and today was the day that I had a window in my schedule that would allow enough time to head up into Edinburgh to deliver them. However before I could do this I needed to empty out the car to allow enough room to transport the 4 very BIG boxes of toys. This done,I was about ready to head off when I got a phonecall from the school to say Bob had fallen in the playground and banged his head, so could I come and get him!!!

When I picked him up he was a bit "bloodied" and shook up so I cleaned up his head, hand and knee, made sure he was OK and we both headed off to deliver the toys.

Whilst we were waiting to bring in the toys from the car we met Sandi Thom who actually used to sing in a band called the Residents who come from my home village of Gourdon on the East coast of Scotland. We chatted for a few minutes before she had to go meet the person she was in to see. After that we brought in the boxes of toys.

Here is Bob handing them over to Radio Forth DJ and presenter Grant Stott. (No relation!)This really made his day!!!!!

Congratulations Bob!

Yesterday I received a phone call to tell me Bob had been chosen to take part in the East Lothian swimming trials. I was overjoyed till I realised they were that night at 8pm and I was working. Oh well nothing else for it I would drop him, Big Bro and DH off in Prestonpans en route to work, (Which is no mean feat, as it is in the completely opposite direction from where I work!!!!)then they would have to get a bus home. No major problem as there is a bus stop outside the swimming pool and one just across the road from our house. Sorted!!! So that's what we did. I later received a phone call, whilst I was at work from one very excited little boy, it wasn't trials at all he had actually been chosen for the East Lothian Development squad. BRILLIANT Bob. Not bad considering he only learned to swim a year ago and only joined the swimming club in January 2008. The others who have also been chosen have been swimming for a lot longer than he has.WELL DONE, all your hard work has paid off!
